Material Passport

The material passport was a piece of research that considered a particular material in more detail. The material chosen was Carbon Fibre as this was a material that could be linked to Bristol through the boat building economy and that the Temple Church was known as the Weavers Chapel. Carbon fibre obtains its strength through the type of weave.

On reflection, the purpose of researching this material was due to a personal interest in creating a tensile structure. Critically, this material is very useful, but does not have the environmental or regenerative properties that I seek to achieve. However, the research on this material led me to design a structural system that incorporated tensile cabling to give the project more support. This structure was left exposed to add atmosphere to the project, and is something I believe works well.

Each student in the group researched a material and these were collated together to form a material bank.
